Squad Goals: Arissa and Alex

“Arissa and I have been friends for a few years. We were both selected for a fellowship and met at orientation. The first time we interacted was when I complimented this maxi dress she was sporting (we’re both style queenz). Then she found out I was a fan of James Baldwin when someone was introducing me, so of course she approached me and we started talking about Ta-Nehisi Coates, Melissa Harris-Perry, and our other mutual interests. I am so grateful for Arissa and honored to be her friend. The way she carries herself, the way she treats people, her commitment to freedom, and her laugh—she is everything! This is us on a hike with others from our fellowship program. We were at the highest point of the hike and had to take a selfie, because we, too, are breathtaking.”  —Alex

Hey, do you and your friends wanna be featured on Squad Goals? We’re spotlighting QTPOC friends and family doing cool things (or just hanging out, it’s whatever). Send a high-res photo (landscape orientation is best) and a short, 150-word story about y’all to go with it to submissions.bgd @ gmail! If we choose your photo and story for the feature, you’ll get $25! Sounds like fun, don’t it?
